ARTIST STATEMENT

What started as an attempt to recreate childhood memory evolved into an exploration of expression in response to grief.

Picturesque stills of familial heirlooms and mementos channel utopian childhood nostalgia despite immense inner sadness for ones lost and time passed. Screen prints of  photographs create blueprints for how to cope and move on.

How do we grieve a childhood lost while embracing the inner child that remains?

This work was completed during a six week "Lightning Residency" at Redux Contemporary Art Center in Charleston, South Carolina.

Introduced alongside the works of painter, maker, and fellow Lightning Resident Nathan McClements, the joint exhibition, “Salvage”, embodied the worlds and celebrated the individual and collaborative works of both artists. "Salvage" was on view at Redux Contemporary Art Center from March 31st to May 20th, 2023.
