STILL LIFE— elaborate constructions of inanimate objects often leave viewers wondering “is this a photograph at all?”
Caroline strives to reimagine the conditions of fine art photography while challenging viewers in a similar fashion: “is this a photograph at all?”
A nod to Renaissance still life, she constructs and captures elaborate compositions of inanimate objects and natural elements.
With little access to the outside world, Herring began composing still lives during the COVID-19 pandemic as an outlet to create imagery without human subjects and explore the roles sculpture and mixed media can play into her process.
Colorfully engaging as they are intricately designed, still lives have not only become a staple in her work, but an avenue of continued experimentation and storytelling.
